Long story.
But...
We all know my luck with cars. And, apparently, I was lucky to get home after driving halfway across country. I came home for family stuff, and on Wednesday I was supposed to drive back to Utah, but other plans prevailed. Instead, on Wednesday we went shopping for my sister's mission when a light went on in the car and it was having trouble starting. We called my trusty uncle, and apparently they don't make car batteries like they used to. After 5 years it was dying. It was too late to go to Auto Zone, so we just went home.
Today, after finding the best battery online, my mother and I decide to drive it to the store so they can fix my car, but it wont start. It is full blown dead. BUT, because it is hot and I don't want to fix it myself, we try several times to start the car. But, despite my promises to the car if it starts, all it does is putter. My mom then decides to pour water into the battery. That sounds unsafe to me. But whatever.
PS, did you know that in my car the battery is in the back near the spare tire? I didn't until recently. Someone had to show me. My dad said if he had looked under the hood, he would have said, this car is defective. I don't know how it worked before, but maybe you can return it. Also, the car people want you to know what kind of engine you have to figure out the battery. I'm texting a friend, and she reminds me that I have a dad, the implication that he can figure all this out for me. I respond, Yes, I do have a dad. I don't understand how that is relevant to my broken car.
Back to the water. Mom pours water in, and I have to start it up. But then she looks at me and says, maybe we should use the remote starter. So she stands in the middle of the street. But I suggest hiding behind the van because it is further away, and is big enough to shield us in case the car blows up. It doesn't. YAY! So mom pours in more water. It doesn't help. So we just take the battery out.
When we get to the store I bring in the battery, and it is heavier than expected. Also, I'm holding it out because I don't want to get all dirty. Mom tells me to put it on the counter, and as I slightly drop it, it makes a very loud noise! The men in the store just laugh and/or just smile. Blah blah blah, we finally get helped and the guy offers to take it to our car. Probably because he thinks I'm weak. He saw the counter situation.
We take the battery home, and we have more fun putting the battery in. My car works on electricity and without the battery, I can't unlock the back hatch where the battery belongs. I don't know why there is only one place to manually unlock the car. Anyway, we have to put the battery in thru the passenger door and get it hooked up.
It took longer than we thought, and even though we thought we might get blown up--it works! All in all, my mom is great. I'm like my dad, and I'm ok with that. This is why I get others to work on my car for me. I am completely fine pulling the "I'm a girl card."
